I ordered a set of quiet baffles for my BSS.I havent got them yet but did see what they look like.Which end is into the pipes? the end with the holes or the end with the packing? Sorry I know it sounds stupid but they dont look like typical baffles.Replacing my big city thunder baffles.
I have been thinking of buying a set of Big City Thunder Baffles, why is it that you are changing them out? Just too loud? And there will be instructions in the box when you get your quiet baffles. If I recall correctly they will go in with the fiberglass end to the back. There is only one way to get them in there so you won't be able to do it wrong.
They are kind of loud. But with all the talk on how good the quiet baffles are as far as the more lower tone rumble sound i thought about giving it a shot.If i dont like them as much as the thunder's i'll put the thunder baffles back in.
I bought the V&H quiet baffels also, but never installed them. I don't think they will increase HP over the stock V&H BSS baffels! The end is plugged and the stock baffels are open pipe but with a swirl baffel. Call V&H to verify this, you have to change the V&H Fuelpak settings when installing the baffels and I imagine you all know that.
I do know that with a straight open pipe whith no baffels at all the power will drip off but don't think the same is true with the V&H stock baffel, which is loud, but sweet in the woods and mt canyons of Oregon.
I got so I liked the sound of the open pipe. My neighbors don't like the sound, so I try to start up and move out of the neighborhood without running the bike to warm it up and racking the throttle to make noise.
I play with my baffles quite a bit, change 'em depending on the sound and performance I want. Only takes about 5 min. to swap out and never had to re-jet. Have several pairs of the straight-thru design of these Samson's. Oh, with the neck-down/taper style I can add packing that muffles the sound cosideriably and adds some low end torque.
They install with the packing /blocked end toward the front of the bike. When you look at the holes for the screws, you will see they will only mount one way. I installed mine myself on my BSS and I really like the sound. They sound much better than my buddy with his RK and Vance & Hines slipons (of course he doesn't agree). Also, with the PCIII and ness big sucker the bike pulled 77HP and 83 Torque when I had it dyno tuned after the install. My total cost for the pipes, air cleaner PCIII and the dyno tune was about $1K. Dyno tune was $200 for the custom map. 8K miles after the install and very happy.

I never fired mine up with the standard baffle, But I really like the sound of my big shot longs with the quiet baffle.
On the longs its a chore tp replace the baffle as you have to remove the heat shields, and some genius decided that the pipes need to be off the bike to remove the shields[:@]
If I ever have to replace or repack the baffle I'll drill a hole in the shield to make the 3rd time easier....
They only go in one way and they are snug, the plastic stay on them, and they smell really really bad for a short while....
The plugged end (with all of the open holes around the sides) goes in first, line up the screw because its a bit hard to turn once they are in.
I haven't ran a dyno, but it makes sense that the quiet baffle would make more torque on the low end, which is what your gonna feel in your seat IMO, unless you run wide open...
The open style baffle should make more sound and more high end HP
