They make a Nice Addition to the Manual .. Nothing replaces a Factory Manual but watching a Hands On Video might save you a little grief in the process of doing the Maintenance..
I have seen a few on you tube. They are a good combination together, the manual to have in front of your bike while doing the work. And the videos to watch someone actually do the repair before you tear your bike apart. You cant ever have too much knowledge.
If you're new to wrenching on your bike, the Fix My Hog videos are an excellent adjunct to the Service Manual for watching how routine maintenance procedures are performed. But, one does not replace the other.
They are really great, as I say every time this comes up. I have to wonder if some people are really basing comments on the youtube videos, without even realizing how much is on one of these DVDs. Basically, every step of maintenance and inspections for every mileage level of your bike. They also have other DVD's for upgrades and modifications and such. I have them for Sportster and Softail and if I had to choose, I'd take them over the service manual and just use the internet to look of model years specs (they are not year specific).
Buy the factory Service Manuals for your make, model & year. They also stress this in the videos. Being a newbie in 2008 the FixMyHog DVD maintenance videos were a great asset in conjunction with the Service Manuals. I still watch them periodically as a refresher if needed for 2007 & earlier Touring models.
I bought the service manual when I first got my bike and received the DVD's last month for my birthday. I've only skipped through the videos to see what it had but seems to be very good in conjunction with the service manual. I'll be due for my 2,500 mile service within a week or so and will use the DVD to do it myself.
