Default Decided to go for it...

For about the past 2 years I have been contemplating whether or not to purchase a cruise control kit for my '07 Fatboy. My Fatboy has been a great bike, but as for the type of riding I do I need cruise control. If I take my bike out it usually for days at a time and miles at a time. I've got 16" Ape Hangers, Boss Bags and a tour saddle; so the bike is plenty comfortable - except for "tingling hands".
I thought about purchasing a Street Glide just so I'd have cruise control. Course, the cost of the Cruise Control Kit is much cheaper, although still a hit on the check book at around $900.00.

I did some research and the kit I liked the most is designed by www.customizedcycles.com. They take the stock Harley Davidson Cruise Control (for a Road King) kit and create a wire harness and mounting plate. Once mounted the kit is tucked neatly in front of the rear wheel, near the pivot point of the swing arm.

Parts are ordered and hope to have a status update sometime next week. I have a trip planned for August, shooting out to the East Coast and back through Blue Ridge Parkway - hope I have it all installed and tested by then.

Cruise control is awesome. I rode over 300 miles home today and can still use my right hand!

Not sure what you're stating? As far as a concern for the security of the site it's fine.

The only concern I have is the cruise module that is used t obuild this setup is no longer in production from Harley Davidson. If the module faults (for whatever reason) not sure what course I would take for repair. The crazy thing is I work for a company that is aMAJOR manufacturer for Delphi component; that's who makes the Harley modules.

So, you are going ahead and ordering an expensive kit, knowing in advance that replacement parts availability is not going to be there if and when you might need it.
O Kay! I'm glad you don't have issues with that.
You might find what if any part might be the (one) that's most suspect of going out and ordering a second one now just to have on hand when you need it. If you never need it, you could sell it down the road to somebody who does need it, or pass it on to the next owner if you ever sell your bike to another individual.
Jus sayin! (-;
All I have on my 06' is the little thumb lock on the bottom of the brake assembly and it doesn't work as well as I would like, so rarely use it. I would like to have one of those cool late model ones that will actually keep speed when going up hills and drop out when hitting either brake, but haven't inquired about one yet. If they're that expensive, It will be quite some time before I do invest. Glad you know enough to know that parts aren't going to be available in the future.
I am eager to know what others here think about it.

Yup, still went ahead and purchased. The way I see it, $900 will still be much cheaper than $21,000 for a SG.

If you ride any distance you will never regret having cruise control.
