I just bought my new HD Trike and I have a sour taste in my mouth. I paid over $34,000 dollars and I now own a new bike I cannot ride. The engine is making so much noise that I am afraid to ride fearing the motor is going to explode on me. I have tried to ignore it but the engine Pings/Rattles so loud it is unreal. I went back to the dealer about the issue but there solution is to change the exhaust, a stage one kit, and also the engine super tuner all this for $2400.00 and this may or may not fix the issue. I feel I should not have to fix this, it is harley's problem and I don't see how I should have to pay anything after spending the thousands of dollars for what is supposed to be a great bike. I cannot believe Harley would do this after selling me this trike for the amount of money I had to put out. They should have let me know before I put all this money down and I would have reserved the extra money down before hand, now I am just screwed. When you buy any other vehicle from a dealership, you should not have to expect to spend all this extra money just tyo drive it home. Any advise you can provide will be very appreciated Thanks for your help
My Ultra rattles and pings when I get cheap gas in it. It only likes premium fuel. A stage 1 kit may be the answer to your problems, but I think I would go to another dealer for a second opinion.
Is the bike not under warranty? If it is, make the dealer fix the problems. If he says the bike is fine, ride it until it craters then make them fix or replace the thing under warranty.
OMG take it to another dealership - good god man, if you are worried about that engine, get it towed to another dealer
call the other dealership - explain the problem - talk to their service dept, see if Harley will pay for the tow - if not, go out of pocket
doesn't seem like this should be a problem that you deal with, rather put it on Harley
and if the other dealer says the same thing, then maybe it's just a harley thing, have you had other harleys before?
what you are experiencing may in fact be normal harley things that others are use to it is not a goldwing trike so they will not be the same, but I don't know your personal experience.
I just bought my first harley last month and the shake takes something to get use to, but it's a thing and you deal with it.

+1, cant get 91 around here ( hd recommended ) so I go 93. My other choice
is 89 and mine pings on it.
Not sure if you have owned a hd big twin before but they are loud, shake, go
into gear with a clunk, gear whine while cruising. The fairing block some wind
noise so all the easier to hear.

Cripes, UK fuel standard is 95 Ron with the good stuff 97-99. No wonder there's some pinging going on!

from your description - there is something wrong with your motor.... take the advice given.. take it to another dealer. Harleys will run without a stage 1. they do it all the time.
one question - did you test ride it before plopping down $34,000? or at least listen to it run? oops, that's 2 questions..... sorry.
....said it needed $2,400.00 worth of aftermarket crap before it would run correctly?!?!?! REALLY?!?!?!?!
Ride the crap out of it and take it back in a bunch of milk crates after it blows up and tell them to fix it under warranty since they said it was "normal"!
I think you have every right to be pissed.
Call "the motor company" and tell them what your dealer told you needed to be done. Then run, do not walk, run to another dealer!
