Question Sturgis Tire Replacement
We'll be arriving in Sturgis tomorrow. While checking the Sportster over this morning noticed minor cracking ( maybe it's dry-rot ) on sidewall of front tire, tread is still good. Has anyone had good or bad experience with having a tire replaced in Sturgis during the Rally? Where did you go to have it replaced? I have a 2008 xl1200 with original Dunlops on it.

I'm sure one of the dealers could help you out. Rapid City H-D has a large facility and I'm sure they are prepared for you and others that need help.

If it has tread left ride it until you get back home...**** a little dry crack ain't that bad...how old is the tire?

sure it will only cost you about three hundred mounted.... but that is balanced also.... wait till you get home. dont worry about it

The Sportster is a 2008 and tires are original with only 4200 miles on them. You really have to look close to see very small hair line cracking like it's dry-rot starting. I was considering waiting until getting home. Thought it might be normal for older tires but not yet dangerous Just don't want to take any chances. It's my wife's bike.

I bought a '72 EG in 1980 which had been sitting for 4 years & I rode it for 3 years, had original tires with 11K. Of course they had cracks & it was totally stupid riding on them, but it goes to show motorcycle tires are tough. I would'nt worry..

Don't worry about it. I think the recommended replacement is 6 years and even at that if they haven't seen a lot of sun I wouldn't be concerned.

I agree with most - it's not a big deal if it's as small as you say.

Had a tire taken care of at Blackhills HD. Make sure you call ahead. Took me all day to get a tire and I was the first one there.
