Was just looking at the 2006 model line up and reminiscing. I really miss the model choices we had back then. I mean look at the Softail lineup, two different springers to choose from along with the FX standard and the Night Train. The Fatboy before the super fat tires or ugly stripes that were added in 07. You could even wait a few weeks and get a returning to the 07 lineup Softail Custom if you wanted.
The Dyna's still had the Wide Glide that really looked like one, the Low Rider was still around and the Electra Glide standard was still a part of the touring line (my favorite Glide). Even the RK Custom was there.
Not to mention the color choices there were, they were great compared to these days. Now I know there have been improvements like the 96 engine and the new touring frame to name a couple but I sure miss the 06 Harley's.
Am I the only one? Maybe I'm just getting old and am hanging onto the past too hard. I'm sure some miss the evo, shovel, panhead days too.
I know, welcome to the MOCO 2012 edition.
August '06 found me in Sturgis on my '06 Deuce, purchased in March of that year. Just a little break in for the new ride, went the long way from Wichita through Colorado, see pic below.
I wonder how many people bought the Vrod Destroyer.
?....Seen a couple'a of'm go from dealerships 'round here(100 ml radius)
Only good for the strip, 'less ya sneak it out....can't be tag'd/license'd....and cash only ta buy it....no finance'n...."bout 30-31K ......
You forgot the best looking bike the Co. has ever made--the 35th Anniversary Superglide! It was the last bike that they came out with that I just HAD TO HAVE! I bought the first one in the Tampa Bay area--traded it a year later 'cause I was disappointed in the ride--to much surge, and I could not straighten it out.
I agree with your post--not much they got now that interests me. Deluxe, or RK Classic;that's about it. They got rid of their righteous sleds (Low Rider,Train,Softail Custom, etc) for some real TURKEYS (Rocker,X-Bones,Switchback,etc) Problem is they're trying to appeal to a younger demographic, and you kn ow what I think of young people's taste nowadays--up their ***! Just listen to today's music. Bikes are going the same way--ugly & soulless, totally devoid of any righteosity.
BTW Before you go critcizing me for calling the Switchback a Turkey--I think it could've been a real righteous sled--the Dyna Electra Glide I was always hoping for--but they ruined it with that "trendy" crappy looking skinny front tire with a fat fender. FL front ends need auxiliary lightbars & 16" wheels w/spokes;period. Anything else looks douchey.
