I am a recent Harley owner so please bear with me. I have figured out that the softails have a hidden rear suspension and Dyna's have two shocks which are visable. Other than visual what are the major differences in the two styles? How does the ride, handling differ things like that? It's cold and snowy here so I have nothing else to do but ask questions and read.
OLD SOFTAILS like mine Vibrate like hell..........I Love it ,you can feel the thunder as well as hear it. Took a ride on my buddies rubber mount road glide and almost fell asleep !
People will tell you that the Dyna's handle better. I have ridden both and really don't see a difference. It's more about rake and wheelbase. A Wide Glide will handle very much like a Softail or a Deuce. A Dyna like the Superglide, with less rake will handle a bit more nimbly.
If you're looking to choose between the two, both are excellent choices. Pick the one you like the look of, the feel of and if you can, ride it and see if you like the handling..
nine11c2 said it real well. I ride a Heritage Classic Softail. The ride really doesn't compare very well at all to a touring model, but I would much rather ride mine across the country than a Superglide. On the otherhand, the SG would be a blast in the twisties.
It's all a matter of what you want the bike for, and what feel comforable to you. I have Anklyosing Spondylitis (AS). I can not ride any bike with mid controls for more than a few minutes. I also can not ride way stretched out like many of the choppers are. The FLST and the baggers are all I can ride now a days.......
