Default My new 02 Heritage Springer / WHAT IS THIS PART?

Greetings!!

This is the bike I just bought. I've been saving for 10 months.... and dreaming for about 18 years. There's plenty of other bikes I like, but a fuel injected Heritage Springer has always been #1 on my list. I just got back from a 5-week trip to Guam and Japan.... ate tuna and Ramen for 5 weeks, saved my perdiem, and was able to come up with the money to put down on it.

I've watched EVERY SINGLE Heritage Springer sell on both ebay as well as cycle trader.... for the past 10 months. It became a DAILY ritual to check both sites, every single day, just to see if something new was listed. If nothing else, I learned what they are worth, what to look for, what I liked, didn't like, etc. It ended up being worth the wait, because this bike has absolutely everything I want... and I even love the color. ("real red" on "diamond ice") The price wasn't "awesome", but it was extremely fair. I dont feel I paid too much, or too little for it...... and considering its rarity... I'm happy. It had to be an 02 or 03 (to be able to buy an HD warrantee = less than 10 years old).. and it had to be fuel injected.... and it had to be clean..... and it had to be affordable. It made for a difficult search.

I wanted a bike with under 20k miles. This one has 30k.... but it's a one-owner bike, fully documented maintenance... and I simply couldn't argue with the condition of the bike. It's cleaner than many Springers I've seen for sale with under 10k miles, that would normally sell for $17 to $18k. I'm purchasing a 3-year HD extended warrantee, including wheel/tire coverage as soon as it gets here... that eased my mind a bit. Otherwise, I love the beach bars, chrome controls, vintage footboards, the chrome tool kit, the passenger backrest with luggage rack, true dual exhaust, fishtails, fender tip, rocker covers, and all the other chrome goodies..... and after closely inspecting the condition of the 100% obsolete (and stupidly expensive if you can find them) saddlebags, mudflaps, tank bib, and seat.... I simply had to have it. I absolutely fell in love with this bike.

I've already picked up an OEM basketweave pattern springer windshield bag on eBay 2 days ago.... its sitting in my garage waiting. I'm looking for a solo fender rack (I know... $$$$$$).... and then there is this "thing". I thought it was an oil cooler... but I cannot seem to find another one like it. I have seen other Springers with a chrome one of these "things", but in order to find it, I have to know what it is.

The very last picture has the item circled in orange.... HELP!!!! What is that thing? Where can I find a chrome one?

Otherwise.... here she is... I can't wait to meet her!!!! Thanks for reading!!!

^^^^^ THAT!!! WHAT IS THAT THING!?!?!?

Man, what a nice find! I think you are looking at the voltage regulator, from your description. Pic is a little dark of the circled area but that's where it is on my 09 Heritage.

Sweet scooter, congrats. Your mystery part seems to be the voltage regulator.

Yes, that is the regulator.
BTW, Kuryakyn sells the chrome covers as well as the chrome covers for the frame down tubes

Lower right under You Might Be Interested there is the chrome cover for the regulator that would fit in nicely with your scheme.

^^^ Thanks!! I've actually been eyeballing the neck and downtube covers from kuryakyn.

The regulator cover was a factory HD part though (the one I've seen/liked). I found a couple used ones on ebay... they are cheap. It doesn't appear that it is yet another obsolete springer part... apparently they were shared with the FX family for several years..... so it should be something I can pick up new from HD relatively easily.

EDIT: Yup... here it is: http://www.thehouseofharley.com/product-p/74597-01.htm

Wish I could say the same about the rear fender solo rack - LOL

You can get the rear fender solo rack from the J&P catalog (Vintage), or online at their website.
