If you wear a 1/2 and don't use earplugs the tinnitus will be there forever. When a frequency is lost due to abuse tinnitus occurs at that frequency and after prolonged abuse the tinnitus is all you hear. The ringing is lost hearing being compensated for. Sucks. 35 years of screaming skilsaws, concerts and riding have resulted in constant ringing in both ears. Wishing I had taken precautions..
Yeah me too. Add AK's and 16's w/20 yrs of straight pipes and sirens.
I use plugs to save what little hearing I have left now.
I use a pair of those Alpines when playing music (drums). They work great to cut out the high frequencies yet I can still hear the rest of the band well. Nice part, is after a gig or practice, no ringing (at least no more than was already there). Haven't worn them riding but my Bell 500 3/4 cuts almost all the wind noise and I still get the wind in my face. Just my $.02.
After using numerous plugs at the Drag Races and riding, I stumbled across these at Walgreens . MACK'S Pillow Soft Earplugs . They are hypoallergenic silicone putty. There are 4 globs in the box and it says '2 pair' on the box. It states Do not break apart , ( my dad used to tell me not to do something and i defied that logic too ) but I have pulled them apart and used half per ear so then you get 4 pair. You can reuse them. Just put them in a piece of plastic and in your pocket. They work really well blocking all the wind as long as you get it sealed in the ear. Just don't push it in far. I can still hear the bike, but it helps to have a tach as I get lost in the peacefullness of the ride. The G/F likes them too.(no helmets) They are in a blue box about 4" x 1 1/2" with white and yellow print and a window on front. I mentioned that cause I had overlooked them many times.

I use earplugs for long trips.....but not for everyday. I prefer a good beanie (or, skullcap). My preferred choice is my Carhartt fleece cap. Cuts out all the wind noise for me.
