I don't need any more deep scars on my hand. I ride a rigid frame and engine mounting so anything that helps on the vibs is welcome. I got a nice pair of tan leather work gloves that work just fine at the local farm supply.
For all you guys that wear gloves in this unbearable heat? Or any other time except when the cold season arrives. I've never figured out what other purpose they serve. I like to feel the soul of my bike when I ride, and dread to have to put them on in the late fall. I could maybe understand protection from a fall, but most of the guys I see wearing them are helmetless, so that doesn't really make much sense. So just wondering ( not a slam) why you wear them?
I get your point. why worry about road rash on your hands when you don't care that you could leave some brain matter on the road.
Well, I guess the same reason as why you see pictures of kamikaze pilots wearing helmets?

Most wrecks involve hands getting torn up not heads . Go ahead do a lttle slide and leave a couple palms worth of skin on the road or better yet trade with gravel & blacktop ground in . Then after you get home and you'll all bandaged up try you luck at getting you old lady to wipe your *** for you cause you can't .
I wear gloves for the same reason I wear a helmet, armored jacket, kevlar reinforced jeans and boots: protection in the event of a crash. I've been down before and have never ridden without gloves since.
Probably a psychological thing, but after going down on a bicycle as a kid (lost a battle with a car) and grinding my hands up pretty badly, I always wear gloves. And..I can still feel the, you know, soul...
In the summer I wear fingerless gloves and no helmet. I have been down more than once and each time my hands hit the ground but never my head. Believe it or not fingerless gloves offer protection to the most likely part of your hands to scrape along the pavement, your palms. I have ripped up the palms of my fingerless gloves and not put a scratch on my fingers. They also keep the backs of your hands from getting sunburned on long rides.
