I caught a rock on the fingernail at 70 once. Ouch! And for protection from the sun.

I don't need any more deep scars on my hand. I ride a rigid frame and engine mounting so anything that helps on the vibs is welcome. I got a nice pair of tan leather work gloves that work just fine at the local farm supply.

I get your point. why worry about road rash on your hands when you don't care that you could leave some brain matter on the road.

Well, I guess the same reason as why you see pictures of kamikaze pilots wearing helmets?

Most wrecks involve hands getting torn up not heads . Go ahead do a lttle slide and leave a couple palms worth of skin on the road or better yet trade with gravel & blacktop ground in . Then after you get home and you'll all bandaged up try you luck at getting you old lady to wipe your *** for you cause you can't .

I wear gloves for the same reason I wear a helmet, armored jacket, kevlar reinforced jeans and boots: protection in the event of a crash. I've been down before and have never ridden without gloves since.

Probably a psychological thing, but after going down on a bicycle as a kid (lost a battle with a car) and grinding my hands up pretty badly, I always wear gloves. And..I can still feel the, you know, soul...

In the summer I wear fingerless gloves and no helmet. I have been down more than once and each time my hands hit the ground but never my head. Believe it or not fingerless gloves offer protection to the most likely part of your hands to scrape along the pavement, your palms. I have ripped up the palms of my fingerless gloves and not put a scratch on my fingers. They also keep the backs of your hands from getting sunburned on long rides.

I wear gloves. Not worth the risk.

Even though I'll ride in short sleeves, I like light weight gloves to absorb vibration, and protect from bees and bugs.

I use Hatch police duty gloves.

I wear fingerless gloves in the summer and a doo-rag. No one in the real world has ever called me a poser or a pirate (not to my face).
