Default Decent light jacket?

I have a textile jacket with hard armor and velcro everywhere that I wear on the freeway, but it's pretty bulky. Currently the choice is either that or a cotton shirt. I'd like to find a lighter option for those occasions when I really don't want the whole enchilada but would like *some* protection.

A lightweight leather jacket? A textile jacket with leather "skid pads"? Anyone have some good links? I'm also a bit long waisted and need a slightly longer jacket than usual.

I just wear a jean jacket. They're adjustable to accomadate 100 degrees to 60 degrees.

Take a look at something like the Olympia "Airglide" or "Switchback" mesh jackets. Plenty of protection, and plenty of airflow.

I bought a mesh Harley jacket when one of the local dealers was liquidating everything in a bankruptcy. Paid about $85 for it. It's got some light armor in it and the air really does flow through it very well.

Sometimes I wear a long sleeve denim shirt or a jean jacket if it's cool. As far as armor, I just stay on my bike, so I don't have to skid.

Thanks for all the great responses. The Vanson Vent Max looks promising. I have an email in to them looking for measurements and if the "Tall" version is actually available (either it's not, or their website is buggy). It would be nice to try them on but their closest dealer is quite a distance away.
