all o-rings are not equal. now i'm not saying that you have to buy the one from the dealer, but make sure that the one(s) you buy are chemical/petroleum resistant. viton by dupont is one.

Just buy the kit from the dealer and stick it on your shelf or in a drawer just in case you ever need it. It'll probably still be on the shelf or in the drawer when you sell or otherwise dispose of your bike.
What I'm saying is that those drain plug o-rings and the derby cover o-ring (or whatever you want to call it, it's not technically an o-ring) will last through many oil changes, practically forever, as long as you don't damaged them.
