Default Removing painted on pinstriping? HELP!

When I bought my 2011 Street Glide it already had painted on pinstriped flames down the top of the tank and bag tops. They were done nicely but in my opinion they take away from the look of the bike. My question is how can I remove them since they haven't been cleared over? I don't want to be able to tell they were there. I have seen the pinstripining guys removing them at the bike rally's with Easy Off oven cleaner but that stuff scares the hell out of me when I think about putting it on my paint. Suggestions? Somebody has got to know a way. Thanks.

I've always been told to use Easy off, but like you, I'm afraid to try it because I've never seen it actually used. You could probably used a cutting compound followed up by a polishing compound.

Try cut polish first. If that does not work try a clay bar or sand lightly with 3000 wet sandpaper. Then polish after.

Man, I have been there and it is a PITA. If the pinstripe has been on for a while there will be a shadow fade. Almost ghostly. You will always know it was there. DO NOT TRY TO SAND IT OFF. I learned my lesson, if you don't like the pin work be prepared to repaint.

ammonia. Most of the paints used for the pinstriping are ammonia soluble. Joey Hutson a pinstriper that did one of my bikes told to be sure and not use any ammonia products on the striping.

My bike is a 2011 so the pinstriped haven't been on there too terribly long. I guess it's just surprising that there isn't a tried and true way to remove them. I've read to spray Easy Off in the bottle cap and apply with a Q-tip. Has anyone tried it?

Alright, I know this is off topic but why in the hell did you buy a bike with pinstriping that you didn't like? Most people would walk away if they didn't like the paint scheme. Best option, repaint and don't make this costly mistake again.

It's not that the stripes are hideous and I can't stand the sight of them. I could live with them if I had to, especially with the deal I got on the bike. I just figured there were plenty of people who have had the striping done before, in a drunken stupper, at a bike rally somewhere and there was a easy solution to removing them. That's all. I mean that's what these forums are for right, to ask questions?

I worked as a car detailer and have used easy off on cars from saturns to porche. The best way to use IMO is to spray into container instead of directly on to the paint use a cloth or q tip to apply to area needed to be removed let sit for 5-10 minutes then wipe off with a clean cloth and water immediately after it is gone.
