Default A year ago today...

A year ago today I went into Manchester HD (Manchester, NH) looking for an Electra Glide Classic or an all black Street Glide. The only EGC they had was red with laced wheels which was a "no way" , They also didn't have a Black SG. I knew another local dealer had a BBP SG but Manch wouldn't let me leave as they knew I was buying that day. They said they had a black Ultra Limited out back and I immediately said "Yea, but that is way out of what I can afford' Their reply was "yes, but we know you are buying today and we want to sell it to you so we will discount it hopefully enough so you will feel comfortable"
$22,200 OTD,
Over the winter I bought the TP detach kit, did my own harness using the Deutch connectors and several acc in the "nostalic" theme, Floorboards, shifter pads, rear brake pedal and a few other goodies like the smoked lenses and light trim rings. I also did the Joe Florida 207LED kit
I recently started piecing together an audio system using the Pioneer AVH6300BT DVD flip out as a headunit and will put the JL Audio M400/4 amp in the fairing and JL Audio C5 650's in the lowers and fairing and keeping it all contrlled with the HW kit so my handlebar controls still work. Reading Glacierpearls thread as well as BigGElvis and their installs got me motivated in that way.

There came a few times I wanted to sell it as I have an injury (spinal fusion with 4 screws, 2 rods, a disc removed and vertebrae cut in half) that sometimes makes a day of riding super painful but my wife refused to allow that. I figured there would be better things done with $20K rather than with a bike that sits alot as I only have 1900 miles after a year.
I want to thank everyone here that contributes to all the threads that provide helpful knowledge, I wish I could put more miles on it but unfortunately pain wise that is not possible.

Enjoy everyday that you can on these classical machines and keep the shiney side up

Jay

It's a beauty. Hope you get to enjoy it for a few more years anyway. I'm heading that direction myself. 15 years ago my Neurosurgeon at the time told me I'd be in a chair in 15 years. Hasn't happened yet but sure it's coming.

I am hoping with a backrest and highway pegs I may be able to find a bit more comfort

I will do whatever it takes to ride one more day with few exceptions.

I'm sorry to hear your pain is not allowing you to enjoy it as much as you want. It's a beautiful bike. EG's always look so classy in black.

1 day of riding is better than 365 of not... best of luck with the pain, not sure but a buddy of mind has a police seat on his ultra & has serious back issues. He almost gave up riding till he put that seat on.

I hear ya. I am 72 years old and still manage to ride 4 to 5,000 miles a year. I love my 99 Softail Custom, so I just keep on riding it. I have 3 bulging discs in my back that do bother me riding sometimes, but it is kind of funny that most of the time my back hurts less when I am riding than doing a lot of other things. I am so blessed to still be able to ride a couple of hundred miles a day. My Softail is the most comfortable bike I have ridden. I have the stock buckhorn bars and the original softail seat. I just had open heart surgery this april after having a sudden death cardiac arrest, but still managed to ride about 4,500 miles this year.

If you are like me, even a short ride will put a smile on your face that is worth a little pain. WHen I retired 7 years ago my back was really bad but has gotten much better the last few years, so hang in there, and I hope you get to ride pain free for many more years.

Highway pegs are a must!

Great looking bike. Everyday you can ride is a gift.
