As posted elsewhere, I am going to be a sudden, new(old bike) Harley owner, newbie, uneducated metric dirtbike rider.
I am buying my brother's '80 Super Glide and will pick it up in a few weeks. He's had this bike for a while and really did like it although he ended up not riding it much (life got in the way). He's about to retire out of country and can't take it with him.
I'd like to give him a token to remember it by. Here's the question...
Primary cover = part that covers front sprocket, etc. on the left bottom of the engine?
Derby cover = approx. 6" cover that is recessed in the primary cover.?
I even went to the library and B&N to make sure but couldn't find a antanomical diagram.
If this is correct, he has a derby cover with an eagle on it. There is a blue banner with stars above and what appears to be a shield underneath with the letters USA bracketed by two drums. I was thinking of ordering me a replacement cover and having a plaque made to mount his cover on. He would then have a signature piece of his Harley to take with him.
Do I have the right cover? If not, what am I looking at?
Thanks for your patience,
Mike
BTW - Tried to post a picture but when I resized it (smaller) it got real blurry, any suggestions?
And in addition to "Do the derby cover and have a plaque made showing the date he bought it." Get the keys duped & spray paint the orginal gold & put it on the plaque.
