I asked this on the "general BS" forum as well. As I was riding today I hit what was a severe dip in the road, a parking lot actually, It wasn't a pot hole but it sure felt like one. I felt the bike "bottom" out on the front as well as the back. My question is what actually bottoms out when you hit a hole like I did? I have been informed that it is the fork tube hitting the bottom of the slider on the front. My concern is that I may have done damage to the bike. I wasn't going fast as I was looking for a space to put the bike. I rode probably twenty miles after this happened and everything seemed normal. Just concerned with a new bike.
These things are tougher than you might think. I've hit a few of those dips you talk about and have had no ill effects. If it's still a concern, pay attention to how she tracks at highway speeds and maybe go over your critical fasteners on the front end.
At the 1k U can have the Next heavier oil put in the front tubes and add more air to the rear to keep for it happening again on all but the Worst holes..
Only once in 41k miles when I hit a really Bad RR track crossing I though My front end was truly messed up because it bottomed out with a really loud Clunk that was really Bad. But it didn't hurt the bike afterall and came out OK..
Having a Softy I can't add air to the rear like U can. I just put in heavier fork oil in the tubes and turned up the rear shocks for 400#'s.... and I haven't had an Issue since, even ridding two up.

On NJ roads we bottom out a lot . No problems on either bike . I have hit so hard had to stop to check tires and rims . All good. I hate when you have shadows on road or at night really cannot see pot holes ,and manholes. We have a lot around here. I doubt at the speed you were going you did any damage. Always good to check though. I think like JackD said its a bike and its going to happen.
