Default Is bigger really better?

It seems like almost an obssession with some folks. Everyone seems to think that the more c.i. you put between your legs the better the bike is. So many threads about the new "high output" 103 putting out 4 whole ft. lbs. of torque at the rear wheel! My buddy wants to put a 125 on his 5 speed hardtail! That's 90% of what the dealer talked about when I bought my slim was the 103. You know what, I rode a stock heritage with the 96 and I could hardly tell the difference between the response on that and the stock 103.

Everyone seems so cought up with getting bigger and bigger. I ride with a guy who has deluxe with an 88 and stage one; that bike has plenty of kick and sounds great. So, is bigger really better or is it for bragging rights (in other words are people trying to compensate for something?)

My old EVO was punched out, new rods, pistons, ported and polished heads, cam, big valves & springs, cases. She had about 150,000 miles on her when I retired and put a S&S V111 in and it is bigger, not the biggest but it was the best money I ever put into the putt,

I've pretty much done something to all the bikes I've had. Cams, pipes, intake, and that sort of thing. Having said that, I've never moved up to a new bike simply for more power. There were always other factors. Getting away from a chain drive, 5 speed over 4 speed, things of that nature. I'm on a 2000 RKC now and I have no real complaints. I would like a better FI, ABS, and a few other things, but more power than I have on my 95 with a cam, pipes, etc. isn't the reason I'm thinking of moving up. The newer frame, brakes, and FI will sway me, not the possible power. At this point, I'd prefer a 103 over a 110 and I'd keep my 95 if I could get everything else on the bike I want. If and when I get a new bike again, I'll most definitely be putting a cam and pipes, and intake on it. I always have and I probably always will but it's for better running not for sheer power.
