I wear a helmet for the very simple reason that my state legislature insists that I do. It isn't my choice, so I wear the bare minimum that the law demands. With one exception, 15 to 20 bucks is about the maximum I've ever spent on a skid lid, and I've got at least a half dozen of them in my garage. I had a nice carbon fiber ACC beanie that was light and low profile, but those got recalled when they failed DOT testing, and are no longer legal.

It seems most of you actually own helmets. I don't. Haven't as far back as I can remember.
I admit, I have been thinking about buying one. Just because I may decide to ride somewhere that would require me to wear one. But then, when it gets right down to it, I just think, nah. Too many places I haven't been yet, that don't infringe upon my rights, to go to those places.

this is what i've been saying for years. in my state of Missouri you have to wear a helmet, but we always ride into Illinois and ditch the lids. Missouri is missing out on alot of tax dollars.

Someone in need of a fix will steal anything. As will a clepto. Sad. But like the Sarge said in Full Metal Jacket, there would be no thievery in the world if people locked their crap properly.

I use a helmet lock, even though most of the time I wear my inexpensive (but well made) Bell Custom 500. I also use it for my very pricey, and crazy well made Arai Signet Q. I should probably get an extra lock for that one.

Another advantage to the helmet lock is it will keep your lid from falling and denting something on your bike. Or just messing up the integrity of the lid.

I don't see why anyone would wear a Fisher Price helmet if they are going to wear a helmet. So many nice and comfortable DOT and Snell options out there. But to each their own.

The F_____S will steal anything. I use a HD lock for mine, when my saddle bags are full.

I've been riding longer than many of your whippersnappers have been drawing oxygen. I have been hanging helmets on scooters for decades without having one stolen. Nevertheless when I bought a pricey Shoei full-face I started carrying it with me or locking it in the tour pack -- way too pricey to take a risk.

I am probably naďve, but I tend to trust fellow bikers. It's the rest of the world I worry about.

Not on the newer FF helmets. My GT Air double D ring chin strap is replaceable. The only safe way to lock it would be to run a cable lock through the faceport around the chin guard.

This is why I'd never spend big dollars on a helmet, , too much fuss carrying it around everywhere

I take it with me... No sense worrying about it.
