Default How Would You Handle It?

I changed out my handle bars and when I was done I bleed the brakes but had to take it into the dealer...... I guess they have to hook it up to a computer for the ABS. So today I took it in and they also took car of a recall that was issued. Anyways shortly after getting home I notice a small dent on the console just below the speedo and a tiny paint chip in front of the gas cap. I only noticed the paint chip because I was checking the paint out knowing they were working with break fluid. Just wondering how I should go about saying something to the service manager. Do they usually take responsibility for their mistakes or is this something I'm gonna have to argue over. The console can be replaces but what about the paint chip? Do they just provide touch up paint? Never had an issue like this b4 with a dealer so I want to make sure I'm dealing with it the proper way.
What's your thoughts.

What you experienced is why I always have them look over my bike when they take it in, and I look over it when I pick it up...before I leave.

Depending on your dealer, they may or may not take responsibility. It is very easy for them to say that it occurred after it left the shop, and there is no proof it didn't.

I would take it in, let them know that you looked it over when you got home and what you discovered. They may make it right, they may not.

If not, there is touch up paint you can purchase.

Default Yea Yea

Hard one..I would have noticed the dent if on my bike before I took it in...But a small paint chip that was in an area I wouldn't be looking at much is hard to say if it was there before or not. I guess If they were a good dealer to me over the past years I would take it in and explain to service manager ect... What ever they say they can do is what they can do. I probably wouldn't loose my mind over it. If I had done the work myself and made the marks I would eventually let it go. Everyone will have a different opinion on this. You will do what makes you content with life.
good luck and keep us posted.

You could ask them, it's possible they will correct the problem but I wouldn't expect anything. The time to say something would have been before you left the lot. I don't go to the dealer for much but I brought a couple of tires over to Brian's HD in PA to get balanced. I had the service manager and a mechanic go out of their way to tell me my rim had a scratch in it. No issue because I told both of them I knew about it prior to them doing the work.

At my dealership, they had an issue of "look what you did" from the rider when it turned out to be the riders fault. He apologized later.

Anyway, now they go through a checklist inspection of the bike before they work on it, to keep it from happening again.

When I used to take my bike to the dealership, they would do a thorough checking of my bike and write down any little defect that was on my bike so they could re check it when they were done. Just out of curiosity, and if they were to ask you, can you prove that they did it? One thing I might add, one time I went in, they noticed a few small scratches on my rear fender and they took care of it for me when they cleaned my bike after service.

Be nice, and see what they will do, but you are too late.
