Neat thing about the old mouse trap. Clutch cable or shifting lever gone just tie a rope or put belt around trap and of you go. Like having a suicide shiftier.
As I'm walking back to my bike a car stopped & asked if he could help. I told him my plight but had peg in hand & was good. Turns out he was a Harley bro & I told him how much I appreciated him stopping. Well, I'm still a couple hundred yards from my bike & after he left I got to thinking, wonder why he did'nt give me a lift back to my bike. Oh well, he DID stop. BTW, that bastard is on there tight now!
I think he didn't give you a lift back to your bike for the same reason you didn't ask for one. He was probably fixated on the idea of helping you do something to fix your bike and you were fixated on having found the peg and getting it on the bike. He asked if he could help and instead of thinking of asking for a ride back to the bike, you stated you were good. He probably thought later in his drive, "man I should have offered to take him back to his bike". Just like you later thought, "man, why didn't he offer to give me a ride?". LOL, happens to all of us at one time or another.
Glad you found your peg and got it back on.

I agree, I think that's exactly what happen. It was no biggie, I needed the extra exercise anyhow.
