Default Honor Ride today.

Today I am priviledged to ride in a funeral procession. A woman, whom I've never met, was a large contributor to the "Run for the Son". This is the only fundraiser of the year for Christian Motorcyclists Association. Anyway, she passed away and her wish was to be escorted to her grave site by a group of motorcycles. So it is my honor to be one of those bikers. It's about 32 degrees outside, but the sun is out and I think somehow I wil be warm!

Sounds like a pretty cool lady. Also cool that you're able to participate in honoring her efforts.

Sorry to hear about her. Love that color on your fat biy lisa. Couldn't find that or the black cherry anywhere. Had to settle on the black but hope to custom it soon.

That's such a great thing to do..........I'm sure it will mean more to the family than you will ever know.

Just got back. Great ride. And her family were thrilled. We were treated like royalty. Made me feel good!

It does give those grieving a different perspective of bikers in general. Last week, I had the unfortunate honor to ride escort for one of our local HOG members who was killed while riding. There were about 40 bikes escorting the family from the home to the church. Those waiting at the church were in tears, hearing the rumble of the bikes approaching. When we got there, and dismounted, they had reserved the front right side of the church for us. The family sat on the left. After the service, we preceded the family to the grave site, and lined up on both sides. As the family passed through, they thanked us for being there. It was VERY moving.

I'm sure your experience was very similar. It's hard to explain, but it changes you. I hope this lady is riding with some of our brothers on the other side. I just can't imagine heaven without a Harley.

Thanks for the comments. You are right ultraultra. It does give the mourners a different perspective about bikers.. This lady was 92 years old. She wasn't the typical person to befriend some bikers, but she did. And her family was thrilled that we were there. It wasn't like you described in that there was only 6 of us. But it was still pretty impressive. We rode in the front and the rear of the hearse and 2 of us brought up the rear of the procession. One of the front bikes had a large American flag attached. The family were so impressed, they brought us back to the church for the family dinner. That was quite a sight, a bunch of guys in leather and all these well dressed family members siting down to a dinner! But it was a special day for us as well.
