WOW, that was some strong *** degreaser you used! I would pull the damaged covers off and get them powder coated.

Try the S100 or other brand of engine brightener and see how it looks. Otherwise you might have to paint/powder coat them

I would try some simple green on it. Stuff works wonders sometimes.

Can't turn the clock back ,but soak it with WD 40 ,let sit ,wipe with terrycloth. You can leave that on forever and it won't hurt.I buy wd40 by the gallon and soak my motorcycle metal parts and leave for winter storage, they still look new.ALWAYS use the least strong chemical first.Sorry for your mishap.Try this but dont get it near your brakes,oh and tires of course, this should be pretty obvious.Good luck

Can also try some silicone spray (test in a small area first). Worked well for me in the crinkle-black areas of my engine. Caveat: a lot of people avoid silicone spray as it makes the area hard to paint in the future.

Hi, I have a can of general silicone lube like this: http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/mo...l#.VeSL09fD9aQ

I use it mostly for the rubber weather stripping seals on my truck - I park outside and the silicone helps stop ice freezing on top of the door/seal during the winter.

I read somewhere that the engine-black products (s100 engine brightener, pigspit) contain silicone as the active ingredient. I tried some of my general purpose silicone lube spray and it worked very well to restore the crinkle paint back to a dark black.

DOT 5 brake fluid is silicone based and will darken up the cases similar to the spray or S100 engine brightener...
