I have an 06 fxdbi. It’s been running fairly rough recently and I have had this decel pop that I have been trying to chase down. After calling fuelmoto and having them send me a new map ( they just added 15 in the fuel cells from 1500 down at 0% throttle) I reilized that throttle percentage always reads 5% in the dynojet software it occasionally ducked to 4% but pretty much stayed at 5. Could this be a bad tps?
what is bad about tps is there is no acceptable range for them, you MUST go by the mfg requirement. the tps is a critical component and they usually wear at the just off idle setting where most of the action or riding is. a bad tps will act like a carb with a bad accell pump, stumbling just off idle and such, the O2 can adjust but will be way behind the tps. now for the 5%, that could be normal, not all tps are set to read zero so you must revert to the mfg spec to see. however, above 5% or below 90% at wot does indicate issues with the tps.
the ecu uses the lower range to tell if the machine is in idle mode and for decel fuel cut off in conjunction with rpm input.
you can check it with a vom with at least a 10meg/ohm input resistance so as not to skew the reading, also it can be checked live by monitoring the input line to the ecu. you should make sure the ref voltage is good and stable before.
I hope you fix your issue, I have a simular problem that just cropped up on my Sportster with the MicroEFI ( a power commander based tuner from Fuel Moto) When I monitored it with the software the % of throttle was all over the place and not linear like it used to be.
My first thought was a flaky TPS but I checked it via this link and the service manual and it was perfect with no codes.
An no amount of recalibration helped. I even opened up the MicroEFI box and checked the TPS signal inside the box. Still clean and linear. So I dont know...Might be a time for me to upgrade to a Power Viaion
here is how you calibrate the throttle :

sweet thanks man I got the power commander for a deal I couldn’t pass up in retro spect I really think i would have been better doing the power vision no one around here will tune my pcv and I rarely hear great things about it so even tho it it’s probably working fine I still have it in the back of my head that it might be an issue at some point
