Just finishing up the 10k service on my 2017 FLSTC with the 103 “High Output.” They call it “high output” because it has slightly more aggressive cams than a standard 103 and supposedly has a high flow air cleaner. Bullshit! Don’t get me wrong. I love the bike and it does run strong but that AC is NOT high flow. It’s a crummy design IMO. First of all, the bracket design is stupid. The bottom air filter bolt is underneath the bracket so it’s near impossible to get a T27 bit on it at a straight angle. But I digress. They’re calling it high flow because of the shape of the outer cover. It has a big ol’ screen covered opening in the front that looks like a ram air setup. Cool. I guess it gets more air that way but here’s the problem. After only 9,070 miles the leading edge of my air filter was completely clogged. Granted, it’s washable and I did wash it and put it back on but WTF? If I had to choose between that and the football AC on my previous Harley I’ll take the football any day. Getting ready to go aftermarket on this. Oh and BTW, the thing was full of bug parts and various assorted trash. Thankfully, the inside of the filter was nice and clean though. High flow my ***. Maybe for a few miles it is and then it’s low flow once it gets clogged up with road grime.
"Flip" the element around and you'll have another clean pleated filter to load up with bug parts! THEN, you'll have a dirty A/C!
Negative. It can’t be flipped. But that’s OK. I guess it was doing it’s job. I washed it per the manual and really could tell a difference. I had wondered why I was getting more decel pop lately. I just chalked it up to hot weather. Cleaned the air filter and, voila, decel pop is back to normal. I actually think the intake itself is high flow (somewhat). I just replaced the filter with a K&N today. It should flow better than the stock filter and be easier to clean. Hopefully all the bug parts that make it through the K&N will be incinerated and passed out the exhaust pipes. lol

Suppose the "rain cover" would reduce the buggage?
Let’s be clear. There was no “buggage.” And they don’t make a rain cover for a stock 103ho AC. At least not the one on a Heritage Softail. You’re thinking of the SE Ventilator. That isn’t what I have.
