Default Sportster Starter

I have a 2016 1200 Custom and the starter is killing my battery each time I start it. I have tried many times to find one online so I can fix it but I can only find it upto 2012 & 2013 and older models. Can anyone tell me if they are interchangeable because the seller does not know. I hate to bite the bullet and be stuck with a starter I cannot use.

Thanks everyone!

A starter cannot kill a battery in one start, the cables could not carry that much current, they would be on fire.

Forget about the starter, if you buy a new starter you will be wasting your money.

Charge the battery, take it to a shop or auto parts store and have them load test it (they will do this for free).

Clean all the battery cable connections, don`t just snug them up, clean them.

Reinstall the battery, and follow the Factory Service Manual procedure.

I did take the battery and have it tested and it is good. Also cleaned all of the terminals and removed all of the extra items I installed. I have well over 30K miles on the bike. I have replaced the battery twice. I do a lot of stop and go (start). I keep it on a trickle charger when I am not riding. When I try to start it (which it wont now) it kills the battery the draw is too much.

If it kills the battery when you try to start it, the battery is shot.

A starter could not drain a fully charged battery in good condition in one start attempt, the cables would melt.

Yeah I took the battery to O'Reilly Auto and had them test it over a week ago...yeah this is a good battery. I did my own test yesterday and sure enough it is bad. Needless to say it was a learning experience! Thank you for taking the time to help

everytime i started having issue with starting, minute to start with and progressively worse till no start, it was the battery.
when doing load test, fully charged battery, load test to remove surface charge and follow with second test to see what the battery is doing.
if you are doing many starts with little charge time between, might be time to upgrade the charge system. the hd pmg is a fixed system and depends upon a rpm range for max effect. they are not alternators that can be field forced for more output
