I will, no luck so far. He stopped working on it because hes preparing for an interview for a new job plus flying home for a wedding. Hell try again when he gets home but I have a feeling hell be getting the local shop that has worked on it before try to fix it
Update!
So he just called me and we face-timed too.
He can get the key to turn to the unlock position and the forks have full movement BUT he can't remove the key unless its in the locked position. He only has the one key which is also the ignition key so he can't start the bike and ride it to the shop for them to look at it. I told him to keep spraying the inside and tap the area while wiggling the key but so far no luck.
Can he take the key somewhere to get a copy made or does he have to go through the dealer?
@elPrez
Any chance he can get at the connector to the key switch, unplug it and jump the R Battery to Accessory and Ignition? Or put a jumper between the battery fuse and the ignition fuse.
Did he use automatic transmission fluid as a lube for the lock as suggested?
Old school ATF can be very cheap and works amazing well at loosening things up.
It is reading like lock is very close to being "free".
E Bay has numerous key blanks available.
A locksmith should be able to copy key if presented with original key and a blank.
I would want lock unstuck before riding.
Another update:
He got a spare key made, a whopping 8 bucks. Rode around his neighborhood slowly to make sure everything was ok and rode the short distance to the Indy shop he uses. They are ordering him a new lock cylinder and will replace everything when it comes in hopefully in a week or two. I assume he'll have to use 2 separate keys after that unless they can re-key the new lock to his old key. Either way, no big deal.
