Default tires

I am just about ready for new tires. I need some input on the brand. Metzler, Dunlaop or Avon. I see the different ones in adds, I figure the bike builders in those adds are paid to say they like there tires. How do I lfind out the truth. Harvey

I've been reading threads on tires for years now. The overwhelming majority of people go with either Avon Venom's or Metzler ME880's.
I don't think I have ever read a post, or talked to a person, that has had anything bad to say about either of these.

In general, Avons are a bit softer, hence "stickier"... but that also equals less miles on the tire before needing replacement. (ok for everyone that wants to chime in they get more miles on the Avon than tire xxx... I said "In General")

I went with the Metz and I'm happy enough with them i don't see the point in trying anything else when the time comes. I think I have about 7k miles so far and I don't have any noticable wear on them. Putting them on my bike was like buying a new bike. Rain grooves in the highway used to really muck with my front wheel, no I just cruise right over them like they are not there.

if you decide to go with Dunlop, go with one of their higher end tires... not OEM replacment. Stock HD Dunlops aren't called "Dunflops" for nothing... they are **** when it comes to road handling and performance.

Depends on how you drive. If you're an old fart like me, stock Dunlops do the job just fine.

you make a good point - with that said, my dealer sells Metz for something like $5.00 more than the OEM Dunlops... so even if I wasn't into pushing the envelope in the twisties, I'd probably go that direction.

I used a set of Michelin COmmanders once. Horrible tire. Slippery on dry pavement, and down right scary in the rain and snow. I don't know how they wear, since I removed them long before they wore out.

I'v used Avon Roadrunners. Excellent tire. Much better than the Dunlops, with about the same wear.
