I have a 1200 Nightster I bought in May. It currently has 3600 miles on it. The bike is stock. The last two days when I start it (it was sitting for a week) it makes a much louder sound. It could be the cold as when it warms up the sound diminishes. But what worries me is when the bike is revved up (there is no tachometer) to what I would guess is 6000-7000 RPM the bike tops out like the gas isn't getting there or that something just isn't right.
What are the odds this is a maintenance versus warrantee issue? I am going to try and take it to a dealer tomorrow or the next day, but would like to have an idea of what to expect.
Thoughts?
(and please, I know how to ride, not fix my bike. I was never as good at being a grease monkey as I would have liked.)
If your running 20/50 wt oil and its cold where your at that might be it. Check your manual and I believe it says to use 10/40 when the temps are below 40 degrees. I hope your not revving a cold motor to redline. When it sounds like its stuttering, your hitting the rev limiter. something you don't want to do regularly. Give it a good warm up by letting it idle for a few minutes, then ride it easy for the first 10 miles or so, and the motor will last alot longer.,

I'd agree, you don't want to reach the limiter with a cold motor. Take a bit to get the oil everywhere it needs to be when you first start an engine from a cold state...
