Magnets and security keys

I received a magnetic money clip for Christmas. This sucker has a strong magnet for a money clip. I can, for instance, lift a heavy knife with it. My bike has the keyless security system that requires the presence of a unit that signals the security system that the fob is in the vicinity. If it is not, the bike won't start. You guys know how it works.

My question is whether or not the magnet will mess with the security fob. What do you think?

It didn't do anything, yet. I discovered that I had inadvertantly put them together in my pocket. I was just curious if someone might KNOW. I might have just been lucky!

I don't know but my feeling is that you are right to question this. I'm thinking it could permanently damage the fob not just render it inoperative when the magnet is near.

I'd Google some of the terms involved and / or check with a Radio Shack type guy.
