I have a 2007 Ultra Classic. When I ride for about 2 hours or more the neutral light comes on and stays on regardless of what gear I'm in. My harley shop says they have never seen this problem. Anyone know anything about this?
I would try replacing the neutral switch. Sounds like it's busted - stuck with the contacts closed. I forget - Does the neutrel switch have just one single wire on it? If so, it is probably a ground wire and that could be shorted somewhere between the switch and the neutral light.
Pull both wires off. If light goes off, jumper between the two wires. Light should come on. If the light is off with the wires pulled off the switch and goes on when you jumper between them, I'd try replacing the switch.
Have you removed the switch recently? If so, I believe the bike must be in neutral when reinstalling it so it will calibrate properly.
Could also be the switch isn't screwed in to the right depth and heat expansion is tripping it. Remove the switch, plug it back in and turn on the ignition. If the light comes on, the switch needs to be screwed in a little bit more than it was. If the light stays off, it needs to go in a little bit less. All depends on whether the newer bikes have a dent or a bump to trip the switch.
