I have a 2007 Ultra Classic that is having a problem stalling when the clutch is pulled. I have taken the bike to 2 different shops and the bike shows no codes. The bike also doesn't do it frequently enough for it to luckily happen when they ride it.
I will be riding along and come up to a stop signal or sign and pull the clutch to downshift and the bike will start to stall out. The bike generally holds at 1k rpm, but when this problem happens I have to keep the throttle engaged to keep it running. I have been told the bike spits out smoke when this happens also.
Other than this the bike runs like a dream. This probably happens 1 in 5 rides. The only way I can stop it from happening is to turn off the ignition and turn it back on or it will continue to do it. Once I restart it, it completely stops doing it and runs normal again.
yep, I have a 07 Road King Custom with the same symptoms. Low idle and dies when I pull in the clutch. Very erratic...hasn't happened in the last 4 or 5 rides. Once it starts acting up I'll turn it off, restart, and all is good. I've cleaned the ECM with carb cleaner, cleaned the air filter, and remapped with my power vision with little success. It's irritating yet not to the point of taking additional action. There are additional posts on the forum that discuss the issue (search "low idle").
I have an 07 as well and it would high idle at times. The name escapes me at the moment but it is a little plunger in the intake manifold that I cleaned a couple of times..Don't know if this may be related.
OK... My 07 Ultra Classic did this 3-4 times yesterday at the end of about a 250 mile ride. It has never done it before. Of course I have only had it for about 3K miles.
Still no answer??
I had it happen to mine and replaced the sensor for the speedometer. Watch when it does it and see if your speedometer goes to zero while your still slowing down.
You didn’t say if you were totally off the throttle (closed) when this happens or still had the throttle slightly open.
Warm the bike up, open the throttle, (22K – 25K should do it) and let the throttle “Snap” closed and see if it wants to stall.
