Default running issue

Hello. I have a 2008 ultra with 57,000 miles and was out riding last weekend and noticed when I rolled on the throttle while in fifth gear my bike would only rev up and not accelerate. The bike has no issue coming up thru the gears but sometimes it will not always set itself into gear unless you let off the throttle. I was wondering if this might be just a clutch adjustment or if I am headed for new clutch replacement.

it does sound like your clutch is slipping...and if it continues to slip it'll heat up and glaze, maybe warp ....you'll need to replace some parts.

so adjust it first see if you can get a good grip with the disks and steels you have now.

Sounds like your clutch is slipping.

An adjustment may be all that is needed, assuming that the clutch still has plenty of life in the plates and springs.

If you just started having this problem, it's probably not at a critical stage...yet.

All the best,

Shane

I would start by making sure the clutch is adjusted properly. My bike is an 09 ultra classic with 98,000 miles and still has the original clutch.(knock on wood lol).

As others have said , start with a clutch adjustment ... If you are a city rider most of the time , and you may ride the clutch a bit more than most, at the mileage you have, your clutch pack, (not basket), may be due for replacement. If your ride mostly country and highway roads , an adjustment is all that may be needed ... Go for a ride, (after clutch adjustment), remove the derby cover and smell the primary oil, if it is an over the top burning smell, that will give a you a reasonable idea if you may required a new clutch pack ...
