How difficult is it to replace a starter on a 2009 Ultra Classic. Is it plug and play? Do I just disconnect the old one and plug the new one in and I'm done? Seems simple, but I have been on this earth long enough to realize that the simple jobs are the ones that seem to make you want to put a bullet in your head! Any advice and input would be helpful. I have plenty on socket wrenches, but will probably have to get an extension to actually get far enough in there to loosen and tighten the bolts. Thanks in advance!
It turns the engine over a couple of times, pauses, then turns it over and starts the engine. Sometimes after the pause, there will be a loud clacking sound. Sometimes, there are clicks after the pause. So far, it hasn't failed to start, but, I want to fix it before it gets to that point. It is my main transportation.

I hear ya. I spent 7 years with my 07 as my main transport. Have you load tested the battery or cleaned and tightened the cables? Sometimes the relay can get weak too. Hate to see you go through changing the starter to find that wasnt the issue.

I will check all of that. The battery is relatively new - less than a year old. But, I live in Florida, so I have noticed that battery life varies greatly down here. Thanks for your replies!
Pull primary cover and inspect the clutch hub and comp. Assy. Do not use an impact anywhere in there trust me someone did it to mine. and 1300 later fixed comp sprocket, chain clutch basket bearings gasket starter clutch. Pull and inspect clutch basket for being bent when spinning it with chain on and pull starter and check contacts. Usally what goes bad with starter clutch aswell. You can rebuild your starter for the fraction of the price of a new one.
