Speedometer Erratic
I have a 2003 Screamin' Eagle Road King. The speedometer has started going on the fritz. I will be riding and all of the sudden the speedo shuts down and the bike will die on deceleration if you do not stay on the throttle. I have already tried replacing the speedo sensor. Obviously no luck. The tach also drops out along with the odometer. Please help if anyone has any suggestions.

im going threw the same thing with my 02 flhpi, Ive cleaned my speed sensor and still no help. It will run fine for 45 min or so then it starts up again. Im now tracing the wire to find a short... Ill let you know what happens.

I had an 02 RK that had the same trouble. I had to replace the spedo sensor. Cleaning it did't work, and apparently from what I am told It's a fairly common problem on the 02-03 tour bikes. I went through two in the 6 years I owned the bike. It may be coincidence but I didn't start having problems until I used Syn 3 in the Tranny per HD's reccomendations. After I went back to gear oil I had no other issues.

I just had a similar prob on an 02 Ultra. There was a recall on the main circuit breaker, which would completely cut power to the bike or at best allow very little current to flow. Had the same throttle symptoms from time to time too.
Your dealer can check your VIN to see if your bike was one of the bikes affected by the two recalls they had on it.
