Hog - Get the cables from your local dealer. I did the same and it was definately worth it. ( $35 ) I think it states in the manual a specific serial to usb converter because most of them have problems.

I didn't get far enough in the manual, orderingthe cablesis required.

I'm planning on doing the work in December / January when riding is slim to none and I'll be ready for spring.
