Charging System Problems???
I have a 2000 FLHTC. 45,000 miles. When I turn the ignition on then put the rocker switch over to run the ALT light stays on for about 5 seconds...This is normal. But now the problem is, when I start the bike the ALT light comes back on solid for about 8 seconds before it turns off. This only started about 2 days ago. Is this a code the engine is throwing off, or is my charging system heading south??? Thanks for any input.

I`d check the battery for voltage before it ran and thenwhen (your eight secs.)to see what its doing.Load test the battery.Maybe the starter is drawing more than usual for some reason and it`s taking the battery a little longer to recoup the draw.Just some ideas.Toby

Thanks Toby, I'll give it a shot. I was told it may be throwing codes, but when I went to check the codes all I got was the initial 5second light then it would shut off then the light would come back on for a solid seven seconds....I don't believe this is a code.

thatIS the sign of a stored code( coming back on after it's shut off), meaning a "historic code", something that has occurred in the past. Once the bike is running, if the light comes on at that point, then it's something going on currently, or a "current code". hope that helps
