Hows it going guys I have a problem with my `04 Fatboy fired it up a little while ago an the headers where glowing red shut it down! My ? is can i have someone tune the stock computer or do I have to purchase a aftermarket tuner for the bike. Iam guessing the timing is retarded or its a lean condition???
Thanks
not sure what your configuration is, but for an 04 with pipes and an air cleaner I would probably recommend a PCIII. You can tune the computer on the bike but it will require a SERT (which is a bit more $$$). Take a look at www.fuelmotousa.com
If the timing is off, it's too advanced, too retarded would acutally make it cooler. Assuming you haven't mucked with anything, you may have a fuel flow problem.
Yeah I'll check the fuelsystem, as far as timmingwhen a engine is too farretarded itwillrun hot acualy burnning the fuel in the pipe this will melt or damage the exhuast guide. Theres two sides to the montain same as if it is to advanced and leaned out it will melt down.

So what caused this to happen all the sudden? If you have a timing or fuel problem all of the sudden then you need to find out what caused it. Has the pipes ever glowed red before?
Well about 2 months ago i had a bad regulator and it was putting out way to much juice, the headers where glowing then changed the regulator and it was fine. I don't know a whole lot about these computers, but i was wondering if the computer could have possible gone back to the factory settings because of having the battery disconected so many times. I don't know, you guys would know better then me. All I know is that my buddy who I bought the bike from had pipes and SE air filter kit and the remap done. It looks like I will have to get a aftermarket tunner for the bike and have it dynoed. Great more money to spend[X(][X(][X(]. But i'll tell ya it would be nice to find out what is up with this thing its not putting any codesout, so who knows.
Thanks for all your guys help if you can think of anything post it please!!
Just out of curosity was the bike being ridden or did you start it in the garage and let it idle?? It's a common thing to see the the rear headpipe glow in the garage if you let it idle for a long time without any air blowing on it. People post on this every winter. It is an AIR COOLED motor. If you started it in a cold garage it's going to run rich till it warms up. That added fuel will make the bike run hotter. I don't think the timing could have changed that much all at once.
MCSarge I think you just solved my problem!! As a matter a fact I did start the bike in the garage and its cold as hell right now. No I haven't riding the bike yet. It runs fine thats why I couldn't understand no code or anything.
THNKS FOR YOU POST
I had the same exact thing happen to me. In the garage, and it was cold. It was the rear pipe on my newly installed vance and hines bss. This was back in the late fall, but thought I'd let you know you're not the only one that got freaked out by the sight. Ron
