Hay Everybody. I just got my 94 Ultra with 32k on it and found out that it has after market head lights and spots on it. When going down the road with the head light only on it charges fine 13v plus. When I turn on the spots also going down the road it drops to 10v plus or min. I have come to figure out that the after market lights are more powerfull and draw more volts thats fine I understand that. But what I dont understand is at an idle with just the head light on it drops to 11v rather quickly but with the spots it drops fast to 8v. So I figured it was the lights. WHAT I WAS WONDERING is how can I check my regulator to see what it is and if I can get a more powrfull one or try to find stock light. I dont wont to do that like the aftermarket ones. THANKS ALL HOPE YOU CAN HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't just go by the volt guage on the dash.....those are not exactly all that accurate.
Get a good multimeter and measure the voltage...this is the only real way to determine if you have a charging problem or not.
Then, use that multimeter to check the battery. Then utilizing the shop manual, test and check the regulator and stator by the book. Don't just start replacing parts at this point.
