Default Ultra Electrical Issue

Interesting thing happened tonight on my 2012 Ultra. Heading to a meeting about 20 miles from home, when the engine and battery lights came on. As I was turning around to head back home, the ABS light came on. Volt Meter on the bike indicated it was charging at 10V even at highway speed. By the time I got back to the house it was running rough.

When I got home from the meeting, it started up and ran fine. No warning lights and charging at 14V. Probably unrelated, but sometimes the neutral light doesn't light when it should.

Battery is new this year and the cables are connected tight. Any ideas?

make sure your voltage regulator bolts are clean and tight.

cables at the other ends?

the tech board has a sticky on testing the stator and regulator- as does the service manual

The bike voltmeter isn't very accurate, so use a multimeter to check numbers. As Mike suggests, run the charging system checks, as your symptoms are typical of a charging fault. That 10volts may be battery voltage, not the charging system if that has failed. Check the main cable connections at both ends, not just the battery, also the ground strap, if your bike has one (between engine and frame).

On a 12, I guessing it's a voltage regulator. Jmo.

Get a digital voltage meter.
Charge battery.
Then do the test of at rest, cranking and then high idle.
Then attach meter to bike securely and then drive only as far as you are willing to push or have someone follow you with jumper cables or take one of those small jump packs with you..
There is a possibility your regulator is failing at higher RPMS.

In my limited experience (I'm on my second stator & third VR and I've changed a few out for others) it seems the voltage regulator is almost always an intermittent issue at first. Stators not so much.
