Well her I am an inexperienced dude trying to friggin download a new map into my ECM. First problem I have is I bought a Radio Shack USB to serial adapter. Does not work, learned the hard way then I read it here too.[:@]A-holes wouldn't geive me my money back either, just an in store credit.
So, I follow some advice I read and went out and bought a Belkin. Model #F5U409v1. Guess what? It doesn't work with Vista.
F*ck this tuning ****.
F*ck HD and not selling cables with the SERT.
F*ck HD for not using USB.
F*ck Vista.
F*ck the EPA for f*cking up our bikes.
F*ck Al Gore.
F*ck my ex-girlfriend.
There, I feel better already.
Anybody have any solutions? That work with Vista? Who have first hand knowledge of it working with Vista?
Buy a cheap used computer with a serial port and stick it in the garage. You might be able to get one for as little as $50. Keck, you might be able to pay the guys at the dump to rescue one for $20.
The best advise I have and what LilBudyWizer \\;suggested is to get a used computer with a serial port on it and Windows XT.
 \\;
That's what I did after trying several times to get my laptop which has XP but no serial port to work. I could not get it to work every time.

Did you try installing the latest Vista driver for the Belkin Adaptor?
 \\;
Every time I tried to load the driver, the wizard said it was uninstalling the driver. I even figured that somehow I had loaded it because it kept trying to uninstall, so I hooked up to the bike and it did'nt find the ECM. Vista is weird I'm new to Vista, I may have done something wrong, but I took back the cable to Staples and got my money back.

I agree with you on Vista. [>:] \\;

See if you can borrow an XP computer with a serial port to load the map. \\;Some folks have used desktop computers for this purpose also. It's just a pain getting it close to the bike.
Thanks guys for the replies. I think the best thing is to find an old laptop or desktop computer running an older OS and has a serial port. I'm gonna look into that, it will certainly be less headaches.
