A buddy of mine has a 92 electic glide with about 11000 miles on it, he bought it about 1 1/2 years ago.he is an older guy that doesn't have time or money to take it to the stealer, so I told him that i would help him out, and that someone one on here would be able to lead us in the right direction. It started last june (09) on a trip his right blinker was blinking really fast and then stoped then it went out, and then on again, well that stoped doing that then when he rode and the bike got hot it would stop running when cool it would start again did that for about two weeks and now its been a year and it won't start at all. after reading some post on here I think it could be an ignition module, but unsure, if anyone can help us out he would be a happy old guy to ride again!!!
Thanks
Rob
A '92 model that has that few miles on it could have developed a corroded ground. The flasher could have gone bad. The only way to tell short of becoming a parts changer is with a volt meter to check if there is 12 volts going to the turn signal light socket. In most case, it will be either a ground problem, a broken circuit or a bad flasher. It also could be a turn signal switch gone bad. In any case it's going to require some troubleshooting.
Ok maybe i didn't make my self clear, it started whith the blinker ( but i dont know if that really has anything to do with this other problem) but now the bike will not start at all. the bike would run until it got hot and the bike (not the blinker) would stop running, when the bike would cool down it would start. but now it wont even fire-up any more!!!!!!
Your going to have to be more specific.
Blinkers got nothing to do with whether the bike runs or not.
Are Plugs getting fire?
Is it getting fuel?
Is the Battery holding a charge?
Does the motor turn over? or just solenoid clicking.
the bike would run until it got hot and the bike (not the blinker) would stop running, when the bike would cool down it would start. but now it wont even fire-up any more!!!!!!
That sounds like a classic ignition coil problem, but its hard to troubleshoot over the web. Is it making a strong spark?
I think what not running means would be a good start. Does it crank but not start? Not crank at all? Simply not running could mean there's no battery on it for all I know.
