I would think this would depend a lot on where you are and how much you need the protection. I mean if you're in Dallas, and riding to work in downtown in the summer time with a hopped up engine, then you prolly want a whole bunch of this and maybe be even more aggressive than stock.

On the other hand, if you are in New England, and it rarely get's above 90, and all you do is ride in the country and don't spend much time in traffic, have an oil cooler and don't run hot to begin with then do you really need it?

I think you're bike owners manual will tell you the conditions and temps the stock config uses, and the info in WinPV also tells you what stick settings are for both Mode 1 and Mode 2.

I see a small number of them too on every ride, but it's like less than 20 for either cylinder for 200+ mile rides. ...and it's nothing I feel or hear.

Default Basic Tune - I've confused myself

Can't seem to find exactly this question. I've apparently managed to confuse my self with autotune basic. I'm performing these steps
1. Turn ignition to on, tuner boots up.
2. Select AT and 'enable AT' (it then asks me to select a map)
3. Select the map FM sent me for my bike
4. Tuner loads the map and then reboots ECM followed by turning ignition off for 10 seconds.
5. (wait ten sec.) Start bike, tuner boots.
6. Go to AT and select 'Data Log' The data log comes on. Sometime with a log, sometimes without
7. Ride bike.
8. At end of ride, exit datalog(exit the green screen back to where I can export)
9. Export learned.
10. Select slot to store new map, then exit.
11. Turn off bike, wait 15 seconds
12. Select custom tune, select the tune I want to load and then 'flash'
13. After flash system asks to turn ignition off and wait ten sec.

Here's where I'm confused, and perhaps my steps are wrong. I hook my PV up to my computer and run WinPV. I compare the new "I assumed tuned" map to the original map, and they are identical. I'm sure I'm missing something easy here and I feel like and absolute moron right now. But I've stared and stared at the manual and I'm just not seeing where I've messed this process up.

Someone give me a big DUH moment please. :-) Thanks.

How many knock events are OK? Some say none, some say a few. I'm just about down to none, but I some times get a few. I took a 300 mile ride, and only one log (about a 20 minute log) had a few knock events. I thimk my current tune might be the one, so far no knock events, time will tell.

Rhombus, your new tune on your PV will be named something like, AutotuneResults001, right?

Yes - Auto Tune 004.0 - which is the one I exported and then flashed. I'm probably have missed something mundane here.

First thing you should do when AutoTuning is after you hit Datalog... you want to see the green screen, and then if it doesn't come up in "HITS" mode, cycle the Mode button on the green screen till you see "hits". Then you will be able to see the areas of the map you are covering as you do your autotuning while riding.

Now, when you are connected to the computer.. (first to a Client Update to make sure you have the latest firmware in your PV) then:

1. So you first do a "Get Tune" to pull the AT004 tune from the PV

2. Then you need to use the Load Compare button to get the previous tune from your Autotune database on the computer.

Not you can view each tune's VE screens by clicking the "Active" and "Compare" buttons and also look at the Delta. Look at the Delta as a percentage by going to the menu and clicking on the "Compare Menu" and then the pull down select "View as Percentage".

I hope this helps. If your not seeing the AT Datalog green screen, then you maybe haven't "Enabled Autotune" first, but it sounded like you had. But I don't like that you aren't seeing the green screen hits.

I hope this helps..somehow. Sounds like you are doing it all right.. but you should see yourself getting hits on the green screen.

Did you hit YES when prompted to reset trims? If not do so.

Thanks for the info. Went for another ride tonight and made certain I hit mode until I was in the "hits" screen. I see some red and some green after riding for a while I'm not seeing any deltas on WinPV, which is what has me totally confused.

I did also reset TRIM when exporting.

When your flashing the new tune to the ECM hit "YES" or your just loading the previous values.
