I was out riding today and the check engine light flashed intermittently. I stop by a dealer and inquire about it and was told that it's probably a "historic code". I'm not familiar with that term, so I get home, learn how to check the codes and I get the following codes:
b0563
p0563
b1006
b1007
All indicate high voltage. After researching on the forums, I've decided it's probably the voltage regulator.
Now, here's my issue: I cannot find a voltage regulator for my bike (2005 FXD) on either the HD website or the HD parts catalog. The 2012 catalog only has them for Touring and Softail models, and the web site only lists one for Dyna up to year 1999. J&P Cycles has one for $192, but that seems high. HD models run around $130, and those don't list my bike as compatible.
Question 1: Where do I find an OEM voltage regulator?
Question 2: How difficult is it to change out the voltage regulator?
That one works, thanks Charlie. Now, for question 2...lol.
If you are sure it's the regulator, just start pulling on it, and whatever is holding it back, remove it . ( a couple of bolts, a plug or two ), of course I'll throw in the standard clause... 'It's in the Service Manual' .
Thanks guys. I have a service manual, but sometimes I have to dumb things down a little to get it. I think these links will do the trick. Thanks for the help!
