Porblem starter when I was riding and dropped the rear cylinder ( no spark ) . Installed new wires and plugs rear quick and change . Had it towed to a shop and they said I had gapped the plugs to wide , they took it for a ride and it ran fine , 100 $. I asked why if both plugs were gapped the same only the rear cylinder no spark , no answer .Rode it and on the way home apx 5 miles , same problem . They picked it back up and then said it was my igntion system . Had them put in a crane hi four single fire . Picked it up and ran fine for about 100 miles , then same problem . I checked my grounds and they are fine . So back at the shop again and we will see . Any ideas , I usually do my own work but wiring is not my best suit .
Sorry , the bike is a 1987 fxstc . only new mods have been a airtail air ride set up with compressor . bike is carbed . I had thought that the ground for the compressor might have been an issue so I dedicated a seperate ground just for the compressor . Talked to the the shop yesterday and they said there has been a lot of problems with the cranes module . They will have one in on moday and that should do it . Just don't want someting underlying to fry it again . Thanx
Most time any of the after market types will fail if you do not shim out the cover of just leave it off. Many time they short out due to the fact the touch the cover, or they over heat. This happened to some else here as well. If you look around you will see most just leave the cover off, the rest install small washer to shim cover out to allow air and to make sure it does not contact the outer cover. When the engine heats up the parts expand they touch the module. I have a few here that are fried from the cover issue. You shop should know this.
Well it has been about 400 miles and no problems yet . Going to Daytona in october so I hope the good luck continues . Oh yeah I did shim the point cover .
