Default 75 front caliper

Hi, new to the forum so not sure if i should be posting here.I have a 75 ironhead one with the front brake caliper on the left hand side on the front of the fork, the caliper is pretty shot and doesnt reallywork to well, would like to know if there is a different caliper that can be used that would bolt straight on. Thanks Paul

GMA makes one that works with the stock rotor. It is about $300 though. E-bay or Sporty Specialties isa cheaper solution for a used part. The stock brakes are not the best anyway. JMO

I've put 42k miles on my Ironhead. I think the front brake works pretty darn good.

You can always get a rebuild kit and give it a try before dropping some big coin on an aftermarket caliper. Add some good pads, like EBC Kevlars, and a new rotor and you might be impressed with your braking improvement. You can do a rebuild kit, new pads, and a new rotor for half what a new aftermarket caliper will set you back.

New rotor, pads and a rebuild (with new piston) will run you under $100. I have the stock brakes on my 74 (same as the 75) and the bike has always stopped for me. I have dual discs on my 92' Dyna and that is what leads me to say the 75 Sportster is not the best. Not the best don't mean it won't stop.

I have noticed that when you change EBC or SBS brakepads brakes are improved enough ... they still need great amount of force, but brakes works.
These pads tolerate much better water ( rain) without fading than original pads.
I think these old brakes are poor mans ABS they stop bike without sliping.
