ok, i'm not a mechanic and this is my first basket case build. lucky for me i have gotten a lot of help from a local bike shop, but they are closed today.
my problem is that the intake push rod covers are leaking oil. i have just gotten head gasket replaced so it dosn't leak and installed the new cork gaskets in the push rods .when that didn't work it was recomended adding old gasket also so far i did that at the bottom trying it both ways (new on bottom old on top and visa versa)and 2 in the middle .
still leaks while riding not so much when idleing.
If the push rod tubes leak oil it can only be one thing, regardless how many times you have messed with the corks. It is the corks that leak.
The corks that are hardest to seat are those at the top of the push rod tubes. You need to use new corks, not old ones.
If someone told you to use old corks then that is just plain incorrect.
Do not double up on corks! It takes 3 in each tube. Top, middle and bottom for a total of 12.
Try it again and watch the seating of the top corks into the recess in the rocker boxes.
Very easy to have these not seated correctly........ pg
Edit Note: You do have item 5 (the steel washer) in each tube don't you?

thx for your help. have checked all that numeous times. the back one seems to have gotten a lot better, the front one is still leaking after bike has been rode for a little while, but does not leak when first started.question? could it still being a little out of time cause this ?
The top part of the cover seats off sometimes. This will make it hard for the clip to be installed.. I slide it up and rotate it back and forth to fell it seat.. have the clip ready. Also make sure there is no left over gasket material left behind.. kinda like an oil filter on a car.. the seating area has to be clean..
+1 on Jim's comment. I have to push the top of the upper pushrod cover up into the bottom of the rocker cover with a flat blade screwdriver, and make sure it seats well up there.
