Just wanted to thank everyone for the help, knowledge , guidance and encouragement. I took her out for a ride today! Ran good. Pulled nice through the gears. Ran really nice. Man, these things run STRONG!!! I loved it1 Felt great. Shifted nice. Stopped nice. Although the newer bikes have a ton to offer, I believe I'll always have an Ironhead. It has been so much fun goin through this thing and learnin' so much. And it's got a four speed and solid lifters! THAT'S a muscle bike! (My opinion only of course)
After the final ride of the season, I drained the oil tank, unhooked the battery and brought her into the living room for the winter.
Thanks again! I couldn't have done it without all of your help!
Since you are putting it up for the winter I also recommend the Stabil in a full tank of fuel.
And........ I would shut off the petcock the last time you run it and run the carb dry. Now it is ready to sleep for a while.

Will do. Wondered if leaving that fuel in the bowl would varnish things up. I finally got that needle valve to seat properly. The spring was not centered along the shaft and it was hanging up. That improved things dramaticly, but fuel still seemed to bypass the valve very slowly. Can't remember where I read it ,but someone mentioned re-using the old valve if it wasn't hard or cracked. Luckily I hadn't thrown anything away. I put in the old needle valve, re-set the float , and it worked great. I think i might stick with the bendix now. we'll see.
Nice to see that my scooter aint the only IronHead that lives in the house..where they belong..
You mean that not everyone keeps their bike in the house??? Makes a great conversation piece, and on those days that it's zero degrees with snow piled up to the gutters, I can still sit on it and make motor noises! Should be really shiny and clean by spring to. More entertaining that T.V.!
