Well, I agree with you on what you say. Since you are an engineer you should understand the reasons for using a stud over a bolt in this application.
As far as discussing with members of the design team you would have to return to the beginning in 1952 with the first K Model.
These guys are long, long dead for the most part.
Any still alive would have been unemployed for decades by this time.

HAHAHA this is very true about were they would be now pg! I'm just happy the old boys gave us the Ironhead to have fun with. It would be so exciting to relive the birth of the Ironhead.

Can anyone help me with this question?

I have an 1983 ironhead I just picked up. I came into the same issue. That motor mount was a stud. I it came out with a little nudge. I feel like it would be better at the bottom hole. For a guidance pin to easy the engine back onto the frame. Just to square things up. That's what I'm going to do. Please say something if this seems like a bad idea or if someone things of a reason I shouldn't do this.

Older Ironheads they were studs..,.we always pulled the studs and used Bolts..
O.E, or Aftermarket Mounts still need "fitted" pattern Blue or Sharpie... and ensure the thing sits Flat on the engine bosses... Yup...File on mount...or thin Steel Spacers even, or...Gonna Break another.. unless your Luck is Much Better than mine..
