Default Confused cams

The moreI strip this '85 engine the more confused I get ! The PO said he had problems timing the cams . All cams are marked 1 through 4 Q so would seem right for the engine . BUT the crankshaft pinion is 3 teeth advanced and the front exhaust cam is 1 tooth advanced .The front ex cam has a dot ( correct for '85 I think ) as is the corresponding mark on the front inlet . The bike ran OK. Any ideas if these cams / pinion are right ( how do I tell ? ) or could some of it be from a later EVO or even another Harley ? Where should the crank pinion mark be in relation to the keyway ?
Also the manual gives a max and min end float for all cams up to '79 but just a minimum from then on . why?

Default RE: Confused cams

Only suggestion is to get the manual and make sure the cams are timed right according to it. Some people adjust the cam timing to get easy start or preformance but if you don't know the math it will lead to problems.
