This is a used oem rear section I had as well. Tried it and the nos one on the repop main and its just made wrong. One would have to make a cut along the length of the fender where the top comes around to meet the side and then move it and the valance up then weld that cut closed.

Thats the only rusty spot on the fender and prices are getting even crazier than when I bought some of the fenders I already have. Watched a fender in worse condition than this get $4500 2 weeks ago.

I bought a pair of the chain guard panels from a guy that reproduces them. One for the 41 and 46. For whatever reason on the 48 and possibly 47 fenders they changed the shape of the lower rear edge. These ones follow the shape of the other side of the fender but the 48 they cut the corner off, not sure why and it makes the fender asymmetrical.

The new panels fit perfectly.

Clean fender, got lucky on that one. Had to weld some holes up around the upper fender bracket, I'll need to enlarge the hole on the left in the photo for the insulated washer that powers the fender light that wasn't available at the time. No trim and no light on the fender and an all black bike with black rims with only chrome spirals it might look pretty cool.

The one head had 4 fins that were chipped or broken in some way. Initial repair done, I'll finish them off to thin them out at the edge to match the rest of them. The head was nice other than the fin issue.

I was thinking about the lack of a fender light on the 42-46 bikes (restrictions on certain metals during the war) and assumed they would still run the power wire to the terminal on the fender behind the horn but apparently not. This is a factory photo of a 46.

Lower mount with wire terminal.
